What is a Mindset?

If we are to truly break down what is a mindset, it would be habits that we constantly chose to action. Doesn’t matter if they are good or bad for us, we will continue to action them. It is up to you whether you wish to change them. Using Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset as a model for what types of mindset you may alternate between, understanding the base of how we can change our habits, the environment we find ourselves in, and who we surround ourselves with are key factors in how we can not just ourselves but the direction we are going in.

Black Box Thinking

The way we see failure can often cloud our judgement of how we should act. This book provides real life examples where failure has be interpreted as something that needs to be covered up or as something that pushes us forward.
Failure is the next step in learning. A number of industries and cultures discourage failure which leads to cover ups and pushing the blame, stifling innovation and accountability. There are examples of why we want to find a single source of accountability and how easy it is to blame without considering the wider picture.

Prepare for Battle: Using battle-mapping to visualise your next move.

A technique based on a military metaphor; battle-mapping visualises the environment you find yourself in. Understand and clarify the different allegiances between stakeholders and other interest parties. Allowing you to plan your next action.
This is a technique I have used with Product Owners and Stakeholders to help them visualise what goals and objectives they need to achieve and how to get there.
